Benefits of Online Student Journals

Letting students write in a journal can be a great thing. This is even more true when it’s online because they can keep everything in one place and not worry about losing it. There are quite a few benefits of student journals online and we’re going to look at some of those below.

Stress Reliver

The first benefit is that it’s a great stress reliever. Often times, younger people aren’t sure how to get their feelings out or explain to other people how they’re feeling. Having an online journal lets them write everything down and get it out. Carrying this kind of burden can be incredibly stressful and detrimental to a young person’s health. They’ll be able to be stress free because they won’t have to deal with all these unknown feelings.

Self Reflection

The next benefit of an online journal is self reflection. Once they’ve been writing for a while, they’ll be able to look back and have some self-reflection. Not only will they be able to go back and see how they were feeling at that time, but they can also see how they expressed those feelings at the time they wrote it. They can then compare it to now and see where they’ve come from. This usually makes them very proud and they’ll be able to see concrete evidence of how they’ve changed.

More Motivation

Being able to use an online journal will help students become and stay more motivated. The main reason is because they can write down lists and other reminders to get stuff done. They can even set it up so that they can go back and mark off the things they’ve finished. They’ll also be able to go back and see what they still need done. This is much easier than them having to just remember to do something.

Stronger Writing

Another great benefit is that students can get better at writing and become a stronger writer. After writing for a while, they can go back and see how they’ve improved and see what they still need to work on. They can also see how their writing style has changed. Often times, this is something they can be extremely proud of and they’ll be able to show off how much their writing has improved.

Problem Solving

The final benefit is that it can help students increase their problem solving. Sometimes it’s much easier to write down a problem and the solutions to it than trying to work everything out in your head. The students will be able to look at the issue on paper and figure out what the best possible solution is. They’ll be able to go through each scenario and see the best option.

As you can see, there are quite a few benefits to having these types of journals. Not only will it make your students more confident, but it will also help them improve quite a bit! There’s really no downside to these and it would be a great teaching technique.
